Fashioning Responsibly Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Fashioning Responsibly - Essay Example The essay "Fashioning Responsibly" discovers the Fashioning Responsibly. The operations of sweatshops usually pose grave risks to the people working in them, as well as, fail to compensate them adequately. Under most circumstances, sweatshops abuse all labor laws in existence. The fashion industry has to shoulder all the responsibilities that result from their production activities. The fashion industry is the most thorough department of the economy in employing poor economic conditions, as well as, harassment of the workers who power the production systems of these companies. Most of these fashion houses have manufacturing plants whereby it employs a number of workers to produce a given product within the right time. The short deadlines between launching of a product and the growth and expansion of market spheres makes some fashion houses not to adhere to the policies and laws set to govern the delivery of labor in the society. These fashion industries operate sweatshops in order to meet their market demands, as well as, provide formidable competition for the activities and practices undertaken within their production lines. In addition, these stringent working conditions also result from the tight deadlines that they have to meet both in the industry as well as in the market. The conditions in sweatshops operated by fashion houses usually relate to a number of characteristics, key among them being overworking its workers for long periods of the day and sometimes in the night. In addition, these sweat shops also pay these workers below the required minimum wage, as well as, way below the set market standards in the fashion industry. This is in complete disregard and total defamation of the laws and regulations mandating payment of overtimes to employees who work for long hours, or those legal laws pertaining minimum wages. The operators of sweatshops in most cases simply abuse their employees. They see their employees as a means to achieve their goals and obje ctives. They do not consider their social well-being and other financial status and needs the employees in this fashion sweatshops end up working on fabric for long hours, without the right working conditions that may also jeopardize their health conditions, and still get the lowest payments at the end of the day.3 This abuse of labor in sweatshops especially in the fashion industry occurs mainly because of the poor economic standards in which these industries are located. For instance, most fashion industries in the United States and other developed countries have their headquarters at leafy and affluent locations in major cities and towns in the United States. These headquarters of a given line of fashion, or design and brand of fashion, work hard to promote their brand, as well as, coming up with the best designs to meet market demands. However, they do not host their manufacturing plants in these leafy locations and town premises. Due to the intensive requirement of labor in the production of these fabrics, as most of the fashion industry is not well techno developed, they locate their industries in countries

Factories May Contaminate and Pollute Residential Areas Essay Example for Free
Factories May Contaminate and Pollute Residential Areas Essay There is a lot of harmful effects. I am totally disagree to this construction especially in the residential areas because it will bring the environmental pollution afterwards. There will be no such word as comfortable if our neighborhood is affected by pollutions. It is obvious that construction of factories will bring more disadvantages to the residential communities and should be stopped before it was too late. However, there are people that believe the construction will bring them benefit especially for those who plan the construction. They believe that factories are the opening door for job opportunities. In addition, its benefit will enhance family economy and improve national economy as well. This construction will get out the unemployed teenagers away from unhealthy tendency such as loitering. Indirectly, factories in residential areas will ease the employers in term of cost saving in transportation expenditure. Still, the construction will lead to environmental pollution. For example thermal pollution will lead to the increasing number of infectious disease-causing vectors since the river and air temperature is conducive to them. High temperature encourages the multiplying of vectors such as rats, mosquitoes, fleas and ticks. The spread of vectors such as mosquitoes can cause diseases such as malaria, dengue and yellow fever. Meanwhile, high rate production of rat also occurred. These animals could spread the disease such as Legionellosis Leptospirosis that spread through urine or feces. In addition, the construction of factories also affects our health. For example, air pollution leads to lung and circulatory system problems. Other than that, chemical pollution will take place. Chemical pollution leads to water source contamination. The contaminated water contains mercury and lead is very harmful to our health especially to our nerve system. Besides, noise pollution from factories also harmful especially to our hearing system. It could have a permanently or temporarily impacts to our eardrums. Noise from the constructions also distracts our focus and concentration in work especially for those that live near the constructions site. Children also have great difficulties to concentrate during their revision. So, these constructions should not be carried out. By only stopping the constructions, any negative impacts can be avoided. It was always true that prevention is better than cure. It will also ensure our neighborhood safe to live and can live in peace and security. Our future generation deserves better environment and we as the caretaker should inherited healthy and secure environment and living hood area. Bicycle Lane in Residential Area. Cycling can reduces pollution and protect the environment. However, the facility for the bicycle lane is very limited. Most of road projects forget to provide a special lane for bicycles include in my residential area. I hope the authorities can provide bicycle lanes for our comfortable and safety. In addition, cycling will be a safety and joyful activities for our leisure time. Bicycle lanes are very important for the safety of cyclists at any time. Even the children can ride in bicycle lane because it is safer than using the main road. Cyclists will feel securely comfortable if special lane for bicycle is provided. They can cycle anywhere they go especially for a short distance destination without worrying any unpredictable accident on roads. In addition, bicycle lanes will be safer area for cycling activities as a leisure activity in any time they want. Indirectly, cycling will improve their health. It also helps to strengthen relationship among them and enhance the sporting enthusiasm. Construction of these lanes will also be increasing the number of cyclists and plays major contribution of reducing the air and noise pollution. Furthermore, the construction of these lanes need little space beside the road and does not require high cost for authorities to build it. Besides, specific lanes for bicycle will not interfere with other vehicles such as cars and so on. Cyclists have their own lane and this will facilitate all road users. All road users can use their own space without worrying about cyclists that could interfere with them. The provider of specific lanes for cyclist also reduces the traffic jam. It is very obvious that the construction of bicycle lanes would be very beneficial. So, it is a great hope to see these lanes will be constructed so that all parties can use this facility for the fullest. As mentioned it is very important in term of safety and comfortably for all the road users. For cyclists especially in my residential area, this bicycle lane is a great needed. ope this bicycle lane will be provided in our residential area. How to get a driving license. Forecast of Aud/Usd:
In short term, Australia is facing higher inflation rate (2. 9%) than the United States (2. 1%), this can lead to the domestic market price increase but not much fluctuation for currency exchange rate. Moreover, Australia has higher GDP growth rate than United States (3. 5% vs 2. 4%) and lower unemployment rate than US, which are 5. 2% and 7. 9% in 2013. Therefore, the income will increase in Australia. Australia consumers would spend more on the US imports and the demand for US will increase. The supply of dollars will increase to buy more US products and the value of USD will increase relative to the AUD.In conclusion, we predict that the exchange rate of AUD/USD will decrease in the short term. In intermediate term, there will be almost a constant decline of inflation rate each year in Australia while that of United States remains fairly constant. The Inflation rate in United States is still lower than Australia. As a result, it is highly unlikely that the interest rate in Austral ia will increase by a large amount. On the other hand, the interest rate within the United States would be expected to remain quite low.In addition, according to the information from IMF, GDP growth of Australia will be stable at 3. 5% while that of United States will increase from 2. 4% to 3. 5%. Although there is a large reduction in unemployment rate in United States, it is still higher than Australiaââ¬â¢s. Therefore, as long as the US Federal Reserve will not implement the monetary policy QE3 in the next few years, the currency of the United States will go up against Australia, but exchange rate of Australia will still be slightly higher than United States in the intermediate term.In the long term (greater than 5 years), the inflation rate of Australia will drop to 2. 4% in 2017 while that of United States will start to rise. On the other hand, GDP growth for both Australia and United States are similar at a stable pace of 4% and are hard to improve? In addition, the unemploy ment rate will continue to decline to about 4%. After 2017, inflation rates and GDP growth rate of both countries are expected to get closer and closer, achieving the stable coordination finally. At the same time, the Central Banks should not raise their interest rate to lower the inflation. Therefore, in conclusion, we predict that the exchange rate of AUD/USD will remain at a stable relationship with each other in the long term. Reference: IMF 2012, IMF Data Mapper, 2Executive summary This report focuses on forecasting the trend of exchange rate of AUD/USD and PHP/USD in short term, intermediate term and long term. The fundamental analysis is based on the changes in demand and supply of those three currencies. In terms of PHP/USD, for short term, the higher domestic interest rate in Philippine and the monetary policy (QE) will be implemented by United States will result in PHP/USD decreases. For intermediate term, as QE grows the GDP of United States, Philippines remain domestic pol icies and target, the supply of dollars increase faster than demand of pesos decrease, PHP/USD continue to decrease. For long term, those factors which affect the exchange rate will trend to reach an another equilibrium, PHP/USD increase. As for AUD/USD, due to the increased consumption of Australia on the US imports, the demand for US will increase. Consequently, AUD/USD will decrease in the short term. For intermediate term, Unit Stated will experience an obvious economic recovery while the major macroeconomic variables in Australia generally remain at a stable level, thus AUD/USD will continuous fall, but AUD will still appreciate slightly against USD. In the long term, the economy of both countries are expected to get a stable coordination, so it is likely that the USD will stop depreciating against the AUD and the exchange rate between the USD and he AUD achieve an new equilibrium. In recommendation, US dollar trend to depreciate against Philippines peso in short and intermediate term, purchasing pesos using US dollars now and exchange back to US dollar in the future which up to 5 years for gaining profit. US dollar trend to be appreciated against AU dollar in short and intermediate term, hence the top manager should hold a short position on the AUD and a long position on the USD, while for the long term the top manager just hold a short position on the USD.

Catcher In The Rye Essays (1020 words) - Literary Realism
Catcher In The Rye Essays (1020 words) - Literary Realism Catcher In The Rye The Impossible Job: Catcher in the Rye Recent studies show that depression is common among teenagers. Although the research may be new, it is not a new disease that has occupied teenagers. In the novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, the main character Holden Caufield is a depressed young man searching for good in the world; scenes in this story push Holden over the edge until he has an epiphany that eventually causes him to have a breakdown. Holden's constant inquiry about the location of the ducks in Central Park and his conversation with Sunny, instead of sexual intercourse, signify a lost boy in desperate need of help. Holden interrogates two taxi cab drivers about the location of the ducks during winter in Central Park. As Holden questions the second driver, Horwitz, the taxi cab driver responds by relating the ducks to the fish in the lake. The taxi cab driver irritably responds to Holden's barrage of questions by replying, If you was a fish, Mother Nature'd take care of you, wouldn't she? (109) The answer is satisfactory to Holden because he knows that wherever the ducks may be, they are taken care of. Holden's motive for wanting to know where the ducks fly in winter is that he cares for them because they relate to him. Similarly, Holden is subconsciously searching for help; he believes that by helping others, such as the ducks, he will find good in the world that will warm his heart and cure him of his depression. However, he finds the ducks do not cure his depression and again he discovers himself feeling lonely. Soon after the duck incident, Holden has his first encounter with Sunny. He starts talking to her and states his (phony) age. Sunny responds, Like fun you are. (123) Then, Holden recognizes she is just a kid; prostitution is no way for a child to live. As Holden tries to reach out to her by initiating a conversation, instead of sex, she only pushes him away by stating, Let's go. (125) Sunny eventually leaves and again Holden feels depressed. He only wishes to help her because subconsciously he could relate to her: they were both trapped in a world in which they did not want to participate. Mr. Antolini's discussion with Holden, identifying his problem, causes Holden's depression to soar to a new level. Holden calls Mr. Antolini because he remembers him as a decent man with whom he could hold a decent conversation. Thus Holden enters his apartment and Mr. Antolini recognizes something is wrong with Holden. Mr. Antolini vocalizes his concerns by stating that Holden is riding for some kind of a terrible, terrible fall. (242) Holden cowers away from his advice by thinking to himself he is tired. However, Mr. Antolini hammers on stating, But I do say that educated and scholarly men, if they're brilliant and scholarly to begin with-which, unfortunately, is rarely the case-tend to leave infinitely more valuable records behind them than men do who are merely brilliant and creative. (246) Mr. Antolini is trying to help Holden by saying that if he does not apply himself to receiving an education, he is ruining and depriving himself of a happy life; his future will depend on the degree of his education. Holden tells himself he is tired and in fact, he is actually establishing a wall in order to block out Mr. Antolini's advice. Later, Holden goes to bed and finds Mr. Antolini stroking his head. He exclaims, What the hellya doing? (249) Holden's new wall is the assumption that Mr. Antolini is a homosexual. As a result, Holden believes this gives him the right to flee from Mr. Antolini's apartment. Later, Holden becomes more depressed as he realizes Mr. Antolini was only admiring him but, he realizes this at a safe distance. It is another part of his wall to not hear more of Mr. Antolini's diagnosis; he knows he will never return to the Antolini's apartment. Holden's depression deepens as he has an epiphany both in the museum and at the carousel. For example, Holden stands in a tomb (in the museum) and again he views another Fuck you scrawled under the

Gastrointestinal Notes Essay
Gastrointestinal Notes Essay Gastrointestinal Notes Essay GI System/GERD/Gastritis Class Notes ââ¬âTuesday April 22nd, 2014 GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM Gastrointestinal System Notes: Think about ââ¬Å"what is going on with that particular system?â⬠GI System digests food and excretes it. With GI issues, always look to prevent peritonitis, which is where intestinal fluids leak out into the perineal cavity causing bacterial sepsis and hypovolemic shock. Assess temperature as the priority! The type or characteristics of the blood in the stool tells you where the bleeding is occurring, i.e. Lower GI, Upper GI or Hemorrhage. RED Blood: Bleeding is in the lower GI area. DARK Blood: Bleeding is in the upper GI area. The AMOUNT of Blood: Determines if hemorrhaging is occurring. Nursing Assessment Data for Assessment of the GI System Weight changes Bowel habits Psychosocial or Stress (stress contributes to causing GI problems) What causes GI problems or what makes the symptoms better or worse? Past exposure to toxic substances in the workplace Diet/Caffeine Drugs/Medications that contribute to GI problems Smoking/Alcohol use (Alcohol thins the blood and increases risk for bleeding) Hydration status and habits/Fluid I/O Sleep habits/quality Timing and location of pain NSAID/Aspirin use (NSAID and Aspirin use causes bleeding) Stool characteristics/Blood color in stool Social economic status and changes contribute to ability to get treatment EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is a visual examination of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Assess for bleeding in the GI (see stool characteristics above) You must obtain a consent form from the patient before this procedure can occur! Preoperative and Postoperative Patient Management: Give NPO 6 to 8 hours before the procedure Avoid anticoagulants, aspirin, and NSAIDS for several days post procedure. (Anticoagulants increase risk for excessive bleeding) Hold all medications except cardiac medications. (call Dx for permission to hold or give meds) After surgery, place patient in the left side-lying position with a towel or basin at their mouth to catch excretions. Assess Vital Signs every 30 minutes postop until sedation wears off. Raise side rails for patient safety. Give NPO after surgery until patients gag-reflex returns (may take up to 2 hours to return). The #1 Nursing Priority is to Prevent Aspiration! Have respiratory support on standby. Laboratory Tests ordered for GI Assessments (Page 1186, Chart 55-3) Other Diagnostic Tests that may be ordered: Endoscopy ERCP (Endoscope Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) â⬠¦not tested on this. GERD (Gastroesophageal Disease) GERD is the result of the backward flow (reflux) of the gastrointestinal contents into the esophagus. The sphincter tone of the *lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is decreased, or it in inappropriately relaxed. Excessive relaxation of the LES is the most common cause of GERD. Chronic inflammation leads to hyperemia and erosion (ulcers). Priorities: elevate HOB to avoid aspiration, take V/S, and have Oxygen and Suction available. Assessment Questions: 24 hour ambulatory esophageal pH monitoring is the most accurate method of diagnosing GERD. Have you been newly diagnosed with asthma? (There is a correlation between asthma and GERD) Have any medications caused GI upset? Have you taken medications for GERD in your past? How long have you been experiencing the symptoms of GERD?
